Colorado Experience May 16-23

Posted on: May 26, 2010

First of all, the departure time of 7 am means getting up at 5:30 am.  So when the plane can’t leave on time due to a nail in the tire, it makes for a long day when you are rerouted through Detroit and don’t arrive in Denver until 5 pm.

Making a longer day is bad enough, but when you miss the Rockies game, that is a bummer, especially since it was a mini Colorado family reunion “surprise” that makes the nail in the tire all the more awful.

Yes, Kathy and Tom had invited Justin, Sheila, Brian, Bob, Brandon and Jessie to the Rangers game.  I was so disappointed when I found out.  So a lesson here.  Never plan an event the day you are to arrive, build in a cushion and arrive the day before.

Kathy and Lee picked me up at the airport and we drove to a spot where Lee had dropped off his truck.  As we parked, a familiar car pulled next to us and it was Bob.  Good thing, too, because Lee was feeling awful, nausea, vomiting, chills, etc.  The previous Wednesday, a tick was discoverd on Lee’s back.  4 days later, the effects were beginning to show themselves.  He was planning to drive 2 hours home and wouldn’t stop by a clinic for medication so Bob followed him home.

Kathy and I stayed on the west side of Denver that evening and headed the next morning for Telluride by way of Cedaredge.

Spectacular drive through Glenwood Canyon and other areas along the Mesa near Montrose and Cedaredge.
